Welcome to Friends of the Gym

Whether you’re new to moving, or just want some company on your journey, Friends of the Gym has you covered. Dedicated to making space for queer bodies and marginalized identities, we’re here to deconstruct traditional fitness culture. We want you to feel connected to your body, through explorations of movement and what makes you feel good.

So come on in, find your friends!

WEEKLY CLASSES

WEEKLY CLASSES ·

Hybrid: Weds & Fri @ 7:00 AM

Tues & Thurs @ 6:00 PM

Ballard: Sun @ 10:30 AM

Strength

Our strength classes are focused on building strength, muscle, and bone density, while having fun and learning more about how our bodies move in the process! Programming for the strength classes follows principles of progressive overload, meaning that we perform the same week of workouts for about a month before progressing to new movements. This allows our students to improve movement patterns and get stronger.

If you’re joining class on Zoom, your coach will offer options for exercises according to the equipment you have. Check out our list of household alternative equipment for creative ideas to add resistance to Zoom workouts.

This class is supportive and not competitive. Movement options are offered to help every body move in a grounded and safe way.

Please bring a water bottle to class!

Core & Stability

Zoom: Thurs @ 9:30AM, Sat @ 8:30AM

This class is focused on building a connection with the core and access to stability throughout the body. We will use a wide variety of equipment (balls, towels, bands, kettlebell, dumbbell, elevated surfaces, etc.) and sometimes no equipment. The pace can vary but coaches will check in frequently to make sure you are finding an intensity that works best for you.

This class is centered around exploring the body’s connection to different parts of the core and how to create a base for strength that works best for your body. We will also work on building balance and stability in different joints and body positions to help connect base core strength to different movements.

Yoga

Yoga Wind Down: Mon @ 6:00PM

Yoga Flow: Tues @ 9:30AM, Weds @ 6:00PM

Friends of the Gym is proud to offer a variety of yoga classes for all levels of yoga. Currently we offer a Yoga Wind Down Class and a Yoga Flow class, both accessible via Zoom. Check out our Pike13 site for more details about our classes.

For yoga classes, options will be offered for folks who love rolling around on the floor as well as those who prefer to be seated or standing for stretches. Some amount of comfort with maintaining stretches will be helpful, but we are fans of wiggling around as needed, so there is never any pressure to do exactly what your coach is doing!
